NaNoWriMo 2022 -- Back to Business
I feel it's almost redundant to address the fact I haven't posted in a while (ahem...two full years and some change since the last one). I've thought about starting a YouTube channel instead to document progress, but it's honestly so much harder and more time-consuming than just creating entries here. So I'm making another goal to actually stick to the blog this time.
We'll see how frequent blogging goes in the long run. I say I'm serious about sticking to it, but time may prove otherwise.
Book 1 of the fantasy series is...still being written. I know, I know. I've had a really wonky past two years, in which I went through many periods of not writing a single word for months at a time. Sometimes it was just my lack of motivation, but most of it happened because I was planning to join a convent of Catholic nuns in Florida for a long time and my life was filled with relevant priorities.
I'm well into Draft 2 of Book 1 (current title: Oath), but I haven't written a word since March/April of this year. I actually haven't written much of any project in that time frame.
NaNoWriMo 2022 has been a big writing refresher for me. I spent October prepping a brand-new story that has nothing to do with the fantasy series, following a 24-year-old woman who's eight years into surviving a worldwide apocalypse. Going to keep other details wrapped up for now, especially given I've only been writing the thing for four days at this point. There may come a time I explain more fully, but that day, alas, is not quite here.
This NaNoWriMo has helped me regain my joy for writing. I'm back to a place of allowing myself to just have fun without worrying about how awful or garbage the words are. And another thing--I'm using a 3-act structure outline for the NaNo project. I'm trying this way of more concrete, structured planning instead of writing intuitively, which I've done for all of my other projects. So far, I've been preferring this method of writing, but we'll see how I feel once we're nearing the end of NaNo and I've had more time with it.
I honestly thought my post would be longer, but I think I've summed up everything I wanted to give an update about.
Now for some fun little tidbits 😁
NaNo '22 Current Word Count: 6,843
Song from NaNo '22 Playlist: Lady Luck Blues (Version 2) by Clarence Williams
This was the track that first sparked the idea for the novel. In my head, I saw two people dancing to this song, but it was playing out of a beat-up radio and as the scene zoomed out in my imagination, I saw they were in the midst of a world that had disintegrated and largely been retaken by nature.
